Pacifica Overpowers Hillcrest Christian:

The Hillside Christian girl’s volleyball team was no match for Santa Monica’s Pacifica Christian, as the Sea Wolves (17-4, 3-0 in league) handily disposed of the Eagles in three games, 25-9, 25-15, 25-17, in a Heritage League matchup at Pacifica Christian High School on Thursday.

Pacifica Christian, which extended its winning streak to nine, dominated from the start, never trailing in the first two sets and allowing Hillside Christian to have a one-point advantage only twice in the third frame before putting the Eagles away for good.

The three-set sweep was defined by the second game, where Pacifica jumped out to a 10-1 lead thanks to an eight-point service run by Gen hook. During that run, the Sea Wolves had four kills, two aces, and two scores on tips over the net.

“When they got on a good run like they did in that second game, it shows us what we are capable of doing,” Pacifica Christian head coach Billy Allen said. “We were sloppy at times, but we were also incorporating a few new plays throughout the game.”

Indeed, at times the Sea Wolves appeared to be a tad disjointed, particularly toward the end of the third set. After relying upon two service runs by Amber Berck and Grace Minchin to build a 16-6 lead, the Eagles slowly clawed its way back into the match.

But after a small run by Hillcrest Christian to cut the Sea Wolves’ lead to 22-17, Maile Lane’s kill gave Pacifica Christian the spark it needed to close out the game and the match.

Pacifica Christian and Hillcrest Christian face off against each other again on Oct. 20 at the Eagles’ home court in Granada Hills.
