Santa Monica Red Cross To Offer Nurse Assistant Course:

The American Red Cross of Santa Monica is offering a limited enrollment, professional level, American Red Cross Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) training program.

The course is a career level course that will provide students with the basic skills to enter the medical profession as a Certified Nurses Assistant.

The five week CNA class will meet at the Santa Monica Red Cross beginning Monday, Nov. 1, 2011.

The course is 22 days in length or 171 hours. Students spend 71 hours in lecture (theory) classes and 100 hours in a clinical setting. The five week class meets Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Santa Monica Red Cross Chief Executive Officer John Pacheco, and past Director for the program in Los Angeles says, “We are really excited about the debut of our new Certified Nurse Assistant program here in Santa Monica. With high unemployment this program provides residents with a way to start a new career in the exciting and always in demand health care job sector.”

Pacheco adds that there is a great demand for health care professionals.

“Nurse Assistants are the first line of caregiver for the infirmed and elderly,” he said. “Our CNA program, taught by well trained and committed Red Cross nurses, helps ensure that graduates have the skills to provide the highest level of compassionate care to seniors and others with long term care needs. In addition to a steady paycheck, there’s also satisfaction in knowing your work enhances the quality of life for those in hospice, senior and other residential care facilities.”

Cost for the CNA class is $100 for Registration (non-refundable) prior to orientation day and a $1,400 course fee. Enrollment is limited to fifteen students.

The course fee includes books, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, two uniforms, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation training and the State Board Exam. Financial aid and scholarships are not available at this time.

The Santa Monica Red Cross is located at 1450 11th Street (at Broadway) in Santa Monica.
