Santa Monica Repertory Theater To Host One-Year Anniversary Gala On November 20:

The Santa Monica Repertory will hold a 1940’s themed gala on Nov. 20 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to raise funds for its upcoming 2012 season.

Tickets are $45 with pre-sale tickets available for $35 through Nov. 13.

From 1941-1947, playwright Bertolt Brecht rented a two-story home at 1063 26th Street where he wrote some of his most recognized plays, including The Caucasian Chalk Circle and The Life of Galileo. Santa Monica Rep pays homage to local theater history and adds their own chapter to the cultural legacy of Santa Monica with this unique event.

The event starts with a mix and mingle, followed by live entertainment beginning at 5 p.m., and featuring performances of excerpts from Brecht’s work, storytellers, musicians, singers and familiar Santa Monica Rep faces from this past Summer’s popular production of The Tempest! At the Annenberg Beach House. The event will also include a silent auction and raffle.

Local Santa Monica and Los Angeles businesses providing support for the event include Santa Monica Yoga, Apex Chiropractic, Tesori Wines, Napa Valley Grill, The Natural History Museum of LA County, Cindy Marie Jenkins, Bob’s Market, The Broad Stage, Dr. Garbers, and more.

Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their 1940’s best. Santa Monica Rep’s hair/makeup designer Catherine Joseph will be on hand to help guests complete their 1940’s “look.”

This event is outdoors, so patrons are encouraged to dress warmly. Space heaters will be provided.

Santa Monica Rep’s first year included unique theatrical events in partnership with city

organizations such as readings at the Santa Monica Public Library, open rehearsals at Clover Park and their colorful, lively production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest! with masks and puppetry at the Annenberg Beach House. Santa Monica Rep aims to produce high-quality, professional theater, embodying our motto: substance, style and story.

Tickets can be purchased on the company’s website www.santamonicarep.org.
