SMC Planetarium To Feature ‘Winter’s Solstice’ In December:

The Santa Monica College John Drescher Planetarium will present the feature show, ”A Winter’s Solstice,” Dec. 2 and 9.

The show will examine the history of various ancient observances of the Winter Solstice and how they have evolved and melded with Judeo-Christian holidays. It will also take a look at a remarkable planetary conjunction in 2 B.C., a leading candidate for a scientific explanation for the Star of Bethlehem.

The feature show is at 8 p.m., and is preceded by “The Night Sky Show” at 7 p.m., which re-creates the night sky and provides the latest information on space exploration.

The John Drescher Planetarium, which features the Digistar projection system, is located on the second floor of Drescher Hall, 1900 Pico Blvd.

Tickets are $5 each or $9 for the “double bill,” with discounts for children and senior citizens. For information and tickets, call 310.434.3000 or go to www.smc.edu/planetarium.
