Santa Monica Household Hazardous Waste Collection Deemed A Success:

Santa Monica is continuing to transition away from the permanent drop-off center to a home pick-up service for household hazardous waste collection.

More than 800 residents used the Home Collection service during the 11 month pilot and feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

Residents reported that service was convenient, safe, and professionally executed.

Home Collection expands levels of access and service for residents while reducing costs – it will be provided free to homeowners and renters in Santa Monica and takes approximately two weeks from the time you call or email to schedule your appointment.

Household Hazardous Waste Center Schedule Reduced To One-Day-A-Month

Reduced hours of operation for the HHW Center at City Yards: The City will continue to operate the Household Hazardous Waste Center one day per month.

Beginning Saturday July 7, 2012, the HHW Center will only be open the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The HHW Center is located at 2500 Michigan Avenue. The upcoming dates for 2012 are: July 7, Aug. 4, Sept. 1, Oct. 6, Nov. 3, Dec. 1.

The Home Collection service is provided in a few easy steps:

Step 1: Reserve collection service: call 800.449.7587, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or e-mail atyourdoor@wm.com. The reservation process includes an assessment of what items you have for disposal, a collection day appointment, and the determination of the precise set-out location for your materials;

Step 2: Receive collection kit in the mail, which includes detailed instructions with collection day reminder;

Step 3: Prepare collection kit at your predetermined location on collection day;

Step 4: Set-out prepared materials on collection day and we’ll do the rest, you don’t even have to be home at the time of collection. Please allow approximately two weeks from the time you contact us until your materials are collected from your home.

This service is provided by the Office of Sustainability and the Environment and Waste Management.
