On Friday, June 22, at 8:17 p.m., officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on patrol in their police vehicle in the 2600 block of Lincoln Boulevard. This vehicle was fitted with an Automated License Plate Reader System (ALPRS).
As the officers were driving along the ALPRS informed them that it had recognized a stolen vehicle that was sitting in the left turn bay at Lincoln Boulevard and Ocean Park Boulevard.
The officers responded, and stopped the suspect 2004 silver Nissan Xterra in the 2400 block of Fourth Street.
The female driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and the officers investigated.
The officers discovered that the owner of this Nissan Xterra had loaned it to the woman driver, but when she had failed to return it to the owner he had reported it as being stolen.
The owner was desirous of a prosecution, so the officers arrested this 42-year-old woman of San Diego, and she was charged with grand theft auto and a probation violation.
Bail was set at $35,000.
