Man Arrested At Santa Monica Ozumo For Tipping Big On Fraudulent Credit Card: Alert Police Blotter: A Big Tipper.

A 35-year-old Los Angeles resident was arrested on Monday, Sept. 24, at the Ozumo Restaurant in Santa Monica Place mall for using a credit card that did not belong to him.

At 8:54 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the restaurant after receiving a report of the man who was refusing to leave the location.

When the officers arrived at the restaurant they spoke with security who were detaining a man because he had used another person’s credit card in order to settle several bar tabs he had opened.

This man had paid one bill for just a couple of dollars but had tipped the bartender $150. When the officers asked the man about the credit card he told them that he had received it in the mail but had never looked at the name on it.

The officers also learned that this man had used the credit card at a number of other places throughout the city.

The officers arrested this man and he was charged with forgery. His bail was set at $41,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
