Santa Monica’s Montana Avenue Halloween Hop Returns This Wednesday:

Montana Avenue’s annual Halloween Hop returns this Wednesday, Oct. 31 for a fun family afternoon from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Businesses will decorate their stores to the fullest, pass out candy to all the trick-or-treaters, and extend their store hours to 7 p.m. in the evening.

There will be spooky activities for children along with contests and giveaways.

ABS by Allen Schwartz store manager Nicole Jewell said the event always attracted lots of local families.

“This year we are doing something a little different by distributing a Door Hanger to 20,000 homes surrounding Montana,” Schwartz said. “We’re also creating a reusable Halloween decorated tote bag to be passed out to the trick-or-treaters. It will be filled with goodies and promotional discounts to the majority of the stores on the street.”

Schwartz said 1000 of these tote bags would be available at select stores for free until they run out.

“It’s going to be a fun family experience for everyone,” she said.

Kevin Goldfein, owner of Rosti Tuscan Kitchen at 931 Montana, said the original Halloween Hop started about 10 years ago and it has evolved ever since.

“The idea was that when the schools get out, both Franklin and Roosevelt, the parents would bring their kids who are already dressed up in costume and take them up and down the street, and then more kids would come from different neighborhoods to come in and out of the stores,” Goldfein said. “All of the stores have candy, and it’s a really fun, safe family day before sun down.”

The Montana Merchants Association makes the annual Halloween Hop event possible.

Montana Avenue from 7th to 17th Street is home to more than 150 high-end boutiques, restaurants, and service establishments.
