“Triumph of Terror,” Exhibit of Paintings, Opens at Ruskin:

The Ruskin Group Theatre is branching out.

“Triumph of Terror,” an exhibit of paintings by Mark Moseley that derive from classic works but have a contemporary political twist, will open with a reception on Saturday, June 18, at the theater.

The opening, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., will coincide with the second cast opening of the Ruskin production of Christopher Durang’s comedy, Beyond Therapy.

The Ruskin Group Theatre is located at 3000 Airport Drive at Santa Monica Airport.

“For his compositions, Moseley draws on – or, as he puts it, ‘steals from’ – famous painters such as Mazzanti, Da Vinci, Delacroix and Vermeer,” said Amelia Mulkey, gallery curator. “The sometimes subtle, but provocative, changes he makes to these classical compositions allude to Moseley’s political and social concerns.”

A Westside resident, Moseley took a degree in Art at UC Riverside, embarked on a career in prosthetics, and took a break last year to create the 20-plus paintings in the show. Earlier this year his work was shown at Electric Lodge in Venice.

The exhibit hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The critically acclaimed Ruskin Group Theatre is doing Beyond Therapy through July 30. Shows are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 5 p.m. Sundays. The exhibit will be on view through August 21.For further information, call (310) 397-3244 or go to www.ruskingrouptheatre.com.
