Santa Monica Woman, 26, Arrested For Hitting Her Grandmother: Alert Police Blotter: She’s A Good Girl Really?

A 26-year-old Santa Monica woman was arrested Thursday, Jan. 3 on elder abuse charges after hitting her grandmother and breaking her belongings.

At 9 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to a residence located in the 2200 block of 26th Street in order to investigate a report of a family disturbance in progress.

When the officers arrived the female suspect attempted to strike one of them after they had restricted her from approaching the victim.

The officers detained the suspect at that time while they tried to piece together what had happened prior to their arrival. It transpired that this woman was the granddaughter of the 68-year-old victim whose residence was the scene of the crime.

The officers spoke first with the grandmother who told the officers that she had allowed her granddaughter to stay with her over the holidays because she had recently been kicked out of her mother’s abode, and was also no longer able to live with the father of her child.

The grandmother informed the officers that on the previous evening (Jan. 2) some unknown event had caused her granddaughter to become enraged and as a result of her angry demeanor, the granddaughter had smashed various items in the house.

The grandmother added she had subsequently requested she leave the premises, but rather than complying with her wishes, the granddaughter then threatened her grandmother with bodily harm, and had also attempted to steal her laptop computer.

At that time the grandmother had told the granddaughter that she was going to call the police at which point the granddaughter threw the computer to the ground and left.

The following morning (Jan. 3) the granddaughter returned to the residence and demanded that her grandmother give her some money.

The grandmother understandably refused to do this and at that the granddaughter hit her. Some smashing of flowerpots and an attempt by the granddaughter to break the front window of the home followed up this assault.

The officers arrested this Santa Monica woman and charged her with elder abuse, resisting officers, and battery upon a police officer.

Her bail was set at $50,000.
