2013 Santa Monica Sustainable Quality Awards Luncheon March 13:

By Susan Emmer

The Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, Sustainable Works, and the City of Santa Monica’s Office of Sustainability and the Environment, will be hosting the 2013 Sustainable Quality Awards on March 13 at the Sheraton Delfina Hotel.

The event is sponsored by Toyota Santa Monica and Morley Builders, and will feature special appearances by Ed Begley, Jr. and former California State Senator Sheila Kuehl.

The event kicks off at 11 am with a lively reception and small bites provided by four Santa Monica restaurants: FIG, Wilshire, Upper West, and Hotel Shangri-La. Networking opportunities abound, and raffle tickets will be available for purchase to win fantastic prizes including a “green” lawn mower donated by The Greenstation.

Following the reception, the party moves into the ballroom where this year’s Awards luncheon will not only honor the 2013 winners, but will also celebrate the 100 plus businesses honored since the SQA launched in 1995.

Kuehl will give a short talk, and then present the first-ever Individual Stewardship Award to Ed Begley, Jr. for his vision, creativity, and commitment to advancing sustainable practices in the urban environment.

The Sustainable Quality Awards recognizes businesses in Santa Monica that have made significant achievements in the areas of sustainable economic development, social responsibility and stewardship of the natural environment. By recognizing local businesses, the Sustainable Quality Awards hopesA to inspire other companies and individuals to adopt their own environmental measures to help conserve our natural resources.

Pre-paid tickets to the Awards Lunchon are $55 for Chamber members and $60 for non-members until March 6. The Sheraton Delfina Hotel is located at 530 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica.
