Sojourn Services Aims To Raise $100K As Part Of LA Marathon:

For the 17th year running, Sojourn Services For Battered Women And Their Children, a project of Ocean Park Community Center (OPCC) will be an official charity of the LA Marathon & 5K taking place on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17.

More than 100 volunteers, walkers and runners will be showing their support for Team Sojourn during Marathon weekend either in the 5K, Marathon or as volunteers at the last water station of the Marathon.

The team hopes to raise $100,000 to support the operations of Sojourn.

Since its inception in 1977, Sojourn has provided services to meet the emergency and long-term needs of domestic violence victims and provide education and technical assistance to the community.

All funds raised from Sojourn runners will provide battered women and their children a safe haven to regroup, rebuild, and reestablish their self-esteem and lives.

Pat Butler, Sojourn Director, said its organization was proud to continue its tradition as an official charity of the LA Marathon, both through its Team Sojourn and its strong outreach efforts at Expo and the best Hydration Station on route.

“Whether you are running for your life or hers, raising funds on your feet or the couch, or cheering at Mile 25 until you are hoarse, you are part of a huge and heroic effort to save the lives of battered women and their children, and we are grateful for every one of you,” Butler said.

Team Sojourn will celebrate its success in fundraising and awareness building with a post-5K celebration at Dodger Stadium immediately following the walk.
