On Thursday, May 16, at 10:44 pm, officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the 1400 block of Fifth Street after they had received a report about a man who was punching a woman in the face and head with a closed fist.
The officers arrived at the scene and immediately spoke with a woman, whom they identified as the victim in this case.
She informed the officers that the suspect was her “boyfriend.”
They had been involved in an “on again off again on again off again etc.” relationship.
Earlier that evening they had gone out to dinner during an “on again” period and, after leaving the restaurant, the “boyfriend” (who had been walking about half a block in front of the victim) suddenly turned and attacked her.
She stated that he had punched her many times in the face and head before running away.
There were independent witnesses and they gave chase but the boyfriend escaped.
The victim told the officers that the “boyfriend” was living with her so they all went to her residence, where shortly afterwards, the “boyfriend” showed up.
This 21-year-old Santa Monica resident was arrested and charged with domestic violence and three outstanding warrants.
Bail was set at $350,000.
