A pair of snack stealers was arrested Saturday, Aug. 31 after taking beef jerky and energy drinks from a Santa Monica 7-11 convenience store without paying.
At 3:45 am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to a store in the 600 block of Wilshire Boulevard, in order to investigate a report of theft.
When they arrived they spoke with the store clerk who told them two individuals had left the store with beef jerky and energy drinks.
They had apparently not paid for these items.
The officers took descriptions of these two alleged snack stealers and discovered them on the corner of Seventh Street and Arizona Avenue.
The two suspects also attracted the attention of the officers because they happened to be eating beef jerky and drinking energy drinks.
The officers began to question these two people and during the course of this conversation one of the possible purloiners refused to respond to questions, became agitated, and backed away from the officers while he put his hand into his pocket reaching for a large object.
The officers, in fear for their safety, grabbed this suspect’s arm and placed him into handcuffs.
The officers escorted this man to the police vehicle and as they were doing so he suddenly allowed his body to become completely limp and he also started to scream.
The officers managed to get him into the back of the vehicle and he was arrested for resisting arrest (due to his deliberate limpness and screaming).
Bail for this 21-year-old homeless man was set at $10,000.
The other alleged shoplifter was released due to the fact that the victim (7-11 store) did not wish to prosecute.
