Santa Monica 5000 Returns To City Sunday Morning:

The Santa Monica 5000 5k/10k benefits the Santa Monica - Malibu Education Foundation.

The eighth annual Santa Monica 5000 returns this Sunday, Oct. 6, so expect road closures and bus detours throughout the morning.

The race will start at the beach at the end of Ocean Park Boulevard. The 5K starts at 8 am while the 10K will begin at 8:30 am.

Runners will head south on Barnard Way and curve onto Main Street and head north to Colorado Avenue.

Runners then head west to Ocean Avenue. At this point the runners turn north for some of most scenic views of Santa Monica and the beaches.

The 5K turns around at Washington Avenue (just north of Wilshire) for a gradual descent to the finish which is just before the Santa Monica Pier.

The 10K goes up to San Vicente and turns around at 11th Street.

The course is USATF sanctioned and certified.

The event raises money for local student athletes and school sports programs with the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation.

Big Blue Bus routes 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 9 & Rapid 10 will be detoured during the Santa Monica 5000. Detours and shuttles will be in effect from 5 am until approximately 12 pm on Sunday.
