The St. Monica football team is still considered to be a Top 15 team in the CIF Southern Section Northeast (XIII) Division. As of right now, the Mariners are the 14th ranked team in their division with their final game coming up against powerful Salesian on Thursday night.
That’s a good thing.
Unfortunately, St. Monica finds itself with the possibility of looking from the outside in when it comes to consideration for postseason play. St. Monica is currently in fourth place in the Santa Fe League.
The Mariners could make a stamen with a win against Salesian, which could bump the team up in the division rankings. Playoff seedings will be handed out this weekend by the CIF once all of the games have been concluded.
If the CIF goes with the format of 16 teams, St. Monica is in and will likely play one of the top seeds in its division on the road. If they go with a different format, the Mariners may be out of luck for postseason action.
Last year, St. Monica made it to the dance and won its first two games in the playoffs before bowing out of the 16-team tournament in the semifinals to eventual champion Rio Honda Prep.
