Santa Monica High Girls Basketball Looking To Regroup: Vikings off to a slow start

The Santa Monica High School girls’ basketball team has gotten off to a slow start. But thanks to the school holiday break, the Vikings will have a chance to regroup for the second half of the season. Samohi next scheduled game is Jan. 15 against Ocean League rival Inglewood on the road.

As of this week, Culver City appears to be the team to beat for the Ocean League crown. A nonleague schedule has produced a 6-2 record and a first place standing for the Centurions. On the flip side, Samohi have registered just one win.

But the Vikings have a couple of bright spots that could help the team turn around when the games matter most in league play. Junior Briuna Dishner has put some dominant numbers thus far.

Dishner is tied for the league lead in rebounding averaging 14 boards per game. Dishner is also the Ocean League leader in assists, handing out four dimes a game.

Defensively, the Vikings will be counting on Amanda Foshag and Nicole Rosenbach. Foshag, a junior, and Rosenbach, a senior, are the top two leaders in the league in taking charges. Rosenbach also leads the Vikings in scoring. Kate Rusk-Kosa is the team’s second leading scorer.
