Hit me with your best shot! In the wake of Katrina, Santa Monica service stations bammed local drivers with $3 a gallon for regular. Last time prices were this high (1981) (adjusted for inflation), Pat Benatar was atop the charts. It makes one long for the good old days, like the Clinton years when gas was less than a $1 a gallon at times and cheaper than bottled water. Most media accounts of rising gas prices fail to mention that our invasion of Iraq shut down crude production and took about 2 million barrels of oil off the market each day. Iraq is now an oil importing nation, just like the United States.
