Big Blue Bus Implements February Service Change Today, Monday:

Santa Monica transit authority Big Blue Bus reminders its bus users that its February Service Change begins today, Feb. 9 and Monday, Feb 10.

BBB said it has implemented changes that will improve service on some of BBB’s busiest routes. 

Here are the changes:

Route 1

  • Bus stop removal: The stop on westbound Windward Ave. at Venice Circle (for buses coming from California Ave.) will be discontinued. Instead, use the stop on Main St. at Market St. 
  • Schedule changes: Cancellation of Saturday trips at 9:18 pm and 9:48 pm, and Sunday trips at 6:55 pm, 7:25 pm and 7:55 pm from Venice Circle (Main St. at Market St.) to Downtown Santa Monica (due to low ridership).

Route 2

  • Bus stop removal: The stop on westbound on-ramp from Bonsall Ave. to Wilshire Blvd. will be discontinued. Instead, use the stop on westbound Wilshire Blvd. over Bonsall Ave. (similar to Route 3 and Metro Routes 20 and 720). 
  • Schedule changes: 
    • Cancellation of the 10:50pm westbound trip from UCLA to Downtown Santa Monica on all days (due to low ridership).
    • Weekday service from Downtown Santa Monica to UCLA will operate every 20 minutes instead of every 15 minutes between 8 am and 9 am. 

Route 3

Major schedule changes 7-days per week to improve service reliability and to provide additional commute options: 

  • New early morning trips: Early morning trips from Green Line Aviation Station to Downtown Santa Monica will depart at 5:02am and 5:22 am on weekdays, 5:20 am and 5:50 am on Saturdays, and 5:20 am and 6 am on Sundays. 
  •  Weekday morning service from Green Line Aviation Station to Downtown Santa Monica will operate every 11 to 15 minutes. 
  • Sunday 6:08 am trip will now depart at 6am from Green Line Aviation Station to Downtown Santa Monica.  
  • Service increase: Weekday service from Downtown Santa Monica to Green Line Aviation Station will be improved from every 20 minutes to every 15 minutes between 7 pm and 9:15 pm.  
  • Weekday service from UCLA to Downtown Santa Monica will operate every 30 minutes instead of every 20 minutes between 7 pm and 9:15 pm.  
  • Weekday service from UCLA to Green Line Aviation Station will operate every 30 minutes instead of every 15 minutes between 9am and 9:45am, and between 2 pm and 2:45 pm. 
  • Saturday service from UCLA to Green Line Aviation Station will operate every 20-25 minutes instead of every 15 minutes between 7 am and 9:15 am.  
  • Sunday service from UCLA to Green Line Aviation Station will operate every 30 minutes instead of every 15 minutes between 11am and 12pm. 

Rapid 3

  • Schedule changes: 
    • New trip: An early morning trip from Green Line Aviation Station to Downtown Santa Monica will depart 15 minutes earlier at 5:55 am.
    • Cancellation of the last trip at 7:05 pm from Green Line Aviation Station to Downtown Santa Monica (due to low ridership).
    • Cancellation of the last trip at 7:50 pm from Downtown Santa Monica to Green Line Aviation Station (due to low ridership).

     

Route 4

 

  • Major weekday schedule changes: Most trips adjusted up to 12 minutes earlier or later throughout the day.

Route 5

  • Detour: Will remain on detour along Broadway due to Expo Line construction on Colorado Ave. in Santa Monica.

Route 7

  • Schedule changes: Minor weekday service adjustments. 
  • New stop: Located on eastbound Pico Blvd. at Gateway Blvd. (after the intersection).
  • Bus stop removals: 
    • Eastbound and westbound Pico Blvd. at Federal Ave. Instead, use the stop on Pico Blvd. at Barrington Ave. or westbound Pico Blvd. at Purdue Ave.
    • Eastbound Pico Blvd. at Purdue Ave. Instead, use the stop on Pico Blvd. at Gateway Blvd. or Sawtelle Blvd.
    • Westbound Pico Blvd. at Camden Ave. Instead, use the stop on Pico Blvd. at Veteran Ave. or Sepulveda Blvd.
    • Eastbound Pico Blvd. at Military Ave. Instead, use the stop on Pico Blvd. at Sepulveda Blvd. or Veteran Ave.
    • Eastbound and westbound Pico Blvd. at Beverly Glen Blvd. Instead, use the stop on Pico Blvd. at Kerwood Ave. or Patricia Ave.
    • Westbound Pico Blvd. at La Jolla Ave. Instead, use the stop on Pico Blvd. at Crescent Heights Blvd. or La Cienega Blvd.
    • Eastbound Pico Blvd. at Alvira St. Instead, use the stop on Pico Blvd. at La Cienega Blvd. or Crescent Heights Blvd.

 Rapid 7 

  • Bus stop removals: The stops on eastbound and westbound Pico Blvd. at Sawtelle Blvd. will be discontinued for the Rapid 7 only. Instead, use the stop on Pico Blvd. at Sepulveda Blvd. or Bundy Dr. Local Route 7 will continue to serve these stops.
  • More service: Extra westbound morning service will begin at Crenshaw Blvd. instead of Fairfax Ave. 
  • Schedule changes: Minor service adjustments to reduce overcrowding in the early afternoon.

Route 8

  • Bus stop removals: The stops on northbound and southbound Barrington Ave. at Sardis Ave. will be discontinued. Instead, use the stop on National Blvd. at Barrington Ave. or Barrington Ave. at Brookhaven Ave. 
  • Bus stop relocation: The eastbound stop on Ocean Park Blvd. at Bundy Dr. will be moved across the intersection after Bundy Dr.

Route 9

  • Major weekday schedule changes to improve service reliability:
    • Improved northbound morning service to reduce overcrowding.
    • Midday service will operate every 30 minutes instead of every 25 minutes.
    • Early afternoon adjustments to better serve Palisades Charter High School.  

Route 11 

  • Route 11 service will be discontinued. 

Routes 1, 2, 3, 8, 12 and Rapid 12 serve UCLA and Routes 6, 7, Rapid 7, Crosstown 41 and Sunset 44 all serve SMC. Use our Route Wizard (see tab below) to plan your next trip.

Route 14

  • Schedule changes: Weekday and weekend evening northbound trips that operate to Wilshire Blvd. at Yale St. will now end on Bundy Dr. at Wilshire Blvd.
