Theatre By The Blind will present five performances of “Walk Me Home” at the Promenade Playhouse in Santa Monica over the next two weekends.
The performance dates are March 7, 8,14,15 at 8 pm and March 16 at 7 pm.
When Tristan, a blind high school senior is suddenly faced with the return of his absentee alcoholic father, he finds a friend in Ashley, his new neighbor and classmate who is also blind.
As Ashley fights for freedom from her overprotective parents, the two help each other navigate the turbulent waters of their senior year and realize that their connection is stronger than either of them could have anticipated.
Will the tide tear them apart?
The play is written by and stars 23-year-old Caitlin Hernandez, born totally blind. She is a writer, singer, and actress currently studying for her Masters Degree in special education.
In the summer of 2013, she stayed in Los Angeles for six weeks, writing and performing in the musical “Dreaming in Color,” also directed by Greg Shane.
Her experiences, both in performing as a blind actress and bonding with her cast, inspired her to write a play for her new found friends in Theatre By The Blind.
“I never could have imagined how close I would get to the ‘Dreaming in Color’ cast and to the whole CRE (Create Reflect Empower) family,” Hernandez said. “Writing ‘Walk Me Home’ was my way of reminding myself, the Theatre By the Blind crew, and our audience that, even though you can’t always be physically close to the people you love, true friendships will survive time and distance.”
General admission tickets are $15.
