New Roads High School Welcomes Combat Paper Project Founder:

Artist and Iraq War veteran Drew Cameron.

Artist and Iraq War veteran Drew Cameron held a papermaking workshop with New Roads High School art students earlier this week, demonstrating the process by which he teaches veterans to use their uniforms, worn in service, to create works of art.

The uniforms are cut up, beaten into pulp and formed into sheets of paper; and through this transformative process, participants in the Combat Paper reclaim their uniforms as art and express their experiences with the military.

Cameron developed the Combat Paper Project, select pieces of which are on exhibit through March 15 in the Capshaw-Spielberg Center for Arts and Educational Justice, located on the New Roads School campus at 3131 Olympic Boulevard in Santa Monica.
