k.d. lang, Jackson Browne Headline Benefit Concert: will raise money for hurricane relief

Grammy winner k.d. lang and Jackson Browne will headline “Songs Of Strength,” a benefit concert for hurricane relief at the Santa Monica First United Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon, September 25.

In addition to lang and Browne, Welsh singer Judith Owen, the Los Angeles-based gospel ensemble The Gwen Wyatt Chorale, and others will perform “personal song choices that represent strength in response to the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Katrina,” according to a church spokesperson.

The concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday.

Senior Pastor, the Reverend Patricia Farris said, “This benefit provides a great opportunity for our community to join together, share the strength of song, honor the culture of the Gulf, and generously respond to all those in desperate need.”

100 percent of the benefit concert proceeds will go directly to relief and recovery efforts for the thousands of people affected by this disaster via UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, the not-for-profit international humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church.

Tickets for the September 25 benefit are now available through the “Songs Of Strength” website, www.SongsOfStrength.com, and through the Santa Monica First United Methodist Church office. A minimum donation of $25 per ticket is suggested. Tickets will also be available on day of show. There is free parking directly across the street and surrounding street parking will be available.
