West Los Angeles Art Day Camp Encourages Growth:

When it comes to summer camp, many parents want their kids to try something new and different, have fun with their peers, but also keep their brains stimulated. Summer camp offers children the unique opportunity to delve into interests and activities that can help them grow and learn in new ways.

“Camp can be an opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and discover hidden talents,” Terry Groehler, executive director of Art Innovators, said. “Children’s enrichment activities can allow them to have an entertaining summer camp experience that also enhances their development and education too.”

Art Innovators, which serves the West Los Angeles and surrounding areas, is an art enrichment program for kids of all ages and lets children discover various artistic styles and techniques using a variety of mediums such as water colors, high quality art markers, colored pencils, chalk, charcoal and polymer clay.

Art Innovators summer campers can participate in themed programs including “Creature Camp’ where children will Discover how dragons got their fiery reputation, create your own creature puppet, and learn some special art tricks that will help you draw anything you can imagine. Or “Caribbean Adventure” where children will have fun filled days with treasure maps, sculptures, Caribbean Island drawings, acrylic painting and other projects related to the Caribbean Sea.

The camps’ use of age appropriate, safe, professional-level art supplies, creative activities and focusing exercises can enhance learning and build skills that the children can use during the school year.  “Our activities include communication, imagination and expression which keep the kids’ brains in an active learning mode,” says Groehler.

This summer Art Innovators Art Camps will be offered at Bluffs Park through the City of Malibu Parks and Recreation (310.456.2489 ext. 363 or www.malibucity.org/register) and Memorial Park through the City of Santa Monica Community Classes & Camps (310.458.2239 or email communityclasses@smgov.net).
