Santa Monica Police Connect Bloody Hand Print To Assault Suspect:

This incident began on Wednesday, April 30, when, at 11:30 p.m., officers of the Santa Monica Police Dept. were called out to the 900 block of Ocean Avenue in regard to a report of an assault.

Upon arrival at the location the officers spoke with the victim of the attack as well as a witness.

These people told the officers that the attack had happened on the street just beside the victim’s automobile.

The victim added that she had no idea at all why she had been attacked.

She described to the officers how she had fallen to the ground after the initial assault and had then endured an onslaught of several blows to her person.

The victim was transported to a local medical facility where she was diagnosed with a fractured nose, and numerous scrapes, scratches, and cuts.

Officers noted bloodstains on the outside of the vehicle as well as a bloody hand print.

Forensic experts examined this hand print. It was not the hand print of the victim and there were no other people in the area suspected of walking around with blood on their hands.

Later on they were able to identify the person to whom the hand print belonged, and the officers suspected that this person was the individual who had committed the assault.

This name was passed on to patrol personnel some of whom knew of the individual.

On Tuesday, May 20 at 8:30 p.m. this individual was spotted by officers in the 2600 block of Ocean Front Walk and arrested.

This 24-year-old homeless man was charged with assault and bail was set at $30,000.
