Bail was set at $21,500 on Saturday, July 19 for a 20-year-old Santa Monica man after punching a man in downtown Santa Monica – six times to the head and face.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a report of a battery that had just occurred in the 300 block of Broadway at 1:45 am on this day.
Upon arrival, the responding officers were flagged down by witnesses who pointed the officers in the direction of the suspect who was walking eastbound on Broadway at that time.
The officers detained the suspect and spoke with the victim who told the officers that the suspect had started yelling at him for no apparent reason, and had then suddenly attacked him with a barrage of exactly six punches to the head and face.
The victim refused medical attention at that time even though he had suffered minor bruising to the left side of his face.
The officers, based upon the evidence, arrested the suspect, a 20-year-old Santa Monica resident and he was charged with assault as well as a municipal code warrant.
