A modern tavern called The Independence is set to open in late November at 205 Broadway (formerly Buddah’s Belly) in the heart of Santa Monica.
The establishment will be headed by restaurateur Jonathan Chu (Buddah’s Belly, Copa d’Oro) along with master barman Vincenzo Marianella (Copa d’Oro, Providence) who have enlisted chef David Bartnes (b.o.s.) and general manager Tatia Oshidari (Orris).
Chu said The Independence would realize a genuine gathering place for the community that celebrates locality with innovative, market driven food, and cocktails offerings for both lunch and dinner.
“Grateful for seven successful years here in Santa Monica, I am excited to bring new energy to the neighborhood,” said Chu. “With The Independence, our goal is to create a great restaurant and bar that resonates with the community — blending the familiarity of a local watering hole with the quality and refinement that afford a truly memorable dining experience.”
