Car enthusiasts and other fans of late actor Paul Walker converged on the area where the “Fast & Furious” star died in a fiery crash one year ago Sunday.
Deputies were deployed to the area of Hercules Street and Kelly Johnson Parkway, where the 40-year-old Walker was killed while riding as a passenger with his friend Roger Rodas, 38, in a Porsche Carrera GT that investigators said was traveling in excess of 100 mph when it slammed into a pole and tree and caught fire on Nov. 30, 2013. Rodas also died in the crash.
No problems were reported and the number of attendees was less than anticipated, said Sgt. David Shoemaker of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Santa Clarita Station.
Some of those who came to the crash scene today were to participate in a memorial drive to Santa Barbara, he said.
Some of Walker’s “Fast & Furious” costars, including Vin Diesel, took to social media to pay tribute to their friend.
“His absence still leaves me speechless,” Diesel wrote in a Twitter post that included a photo of Walker holding Diesel’s 6-year-old daughter.
