Football

Venice High defeated Hamilton, 37-15 to set up an important Western League game at home Thursday at 7 p.m. against University. It will be Venice’s Homecoming. Venice is 7-2 overall. University is 8-1 following a 25-14 win over Westchester. The Wildcats were led by halfback Cedric Hayes with 120 yards and three touchdowns.

Malibu continued its season-long pattern of winning a game, then losing one in a 26-21 loss to Santa Clara of Oxnard. The final regular season game Friday will be at Villanova Prep.

Undefeated Lighthouse Christian is ranked No. 1 in 8-man Division 15 by the CIF and No. 6 in the nation in its grouping by MaxPreps.com. Lighthouse Christian defeated Price Saturday, 54-8, improving to 7-0. Lighhouse has scored 394 points and given up 182.

Girls Volleyball

Lighthouse Christian went 12-0 in the Harbor League to win its fifth league championship since 2001 (it tied with New Roads in 2003 and is 17-2 overall).

New Roads defeated Price, 25-17, 26-24, 25-17 as Marilu Gonzalez had 13 kills and Crystal Griffin had two kills and four blocks. New Roads is 12-4 and finished second in the Harbor League with a 9-2 record.

Girls Cross Country

St. Monica finished third in the Camino Real League meet with 53 points. In a sport where the lowest score wins, St. Mary’s Academy was first with 25 points and Cantwell-Sacred Heart finished second with 42. Santa Monica finished second to Beverly Hills in the Ocean League meet. Santa Monica had 30 points and Beverly Hills 28.
