Gas In O.C. Surpasses $4 Gallon Mark:

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Orange County today surpassed the $4 mark for the first time since July 24, rising seven-tenths of a cent to $4.003.

The average price has risen 10 consecutive days and is 17.3 cents more than one week ago and 90.5 cents higher than one month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. However, it is 17.8 cents less than one year ago.

Los Angeles County average price rose three-tenths of a cent to $4.016, its highest amount since July 26. It has risen nine consecutive days and is 18.5 cents more than one week ago and 88.3 cents higher than one month ago, but 17.8 cents less than one year ago.

Los Angeles County and Orange County are the only regions in the state where the average price is above $4.

The rising prices are believed to be caused by production problems at an unidentified refinery last weekend that pushed Los Angeles wholesale prices up nearly 30 cents, said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
