Latest police, crime and courts news.

A 50-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested on Wednesday, June 24, after striking a man urinating in public over the head with a stick.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the 1300 block of Colorado Ave. at 6:40 pm after they had received a report of a man hitting another man with a stick.

When the officers arrived they detained both of the individuals and began their investigation.

The officers noticed that one of the men was bleeding from his head and they spoke to this man first.

This man said that he had simply been urinating in a bush when the other man approached and told him to stop this act of relieving himself.

The man stated that he had responded by telling the other man to “mind his own business.”

He added that a few moments after he had told the other man to “mind his own business” the other man struck him in the head with an unknown object.

The officers then looked around the area and discovered a stick, some broken glass and a bloodied towel nearby.

The officers then spoke with the other man and he said that it had been essential that he strike the man in the head as a means of defending himself.

The officers arrested this individual and he was later charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Bail for this man was set at $30,000.
