Yoga Fundraiser Against Cancer Sunday At The End Of Santa Monica Pier:

Fight the good fight against cancer this weekend with sunshine and some beach yoga at the Santa Monica Pier. For a $25 ticket, yogi fundraisers will receive a free yoga mat and water while providing real immediate support for both those being diagnosed with cancer and those that have survived.

Join Imerman Angels and Priv at the end of the Pier this Sunday, July 12 at 10:30 am with an instructor to lead the hour-long surfside yoga class. Priv, a beauty and wellness app that allows you to book services to wherever you are, and ProSource are sponsors.

All proceeds go to Imerman Angels, a nonprofit organization that enables free one-on-one cancer support service for cancer fighters, survivors, and their caregivers.

Based out of Chicago, Imerman Angels recently launched in Los Angeles with Regional Director Jordyn Goodman taking the helm earlier this year.

The organization’s tag line is “Because no one should face cancer alone,” and it’s a message that hits home for both Goodman and Imerman’s founder, Jonny Imerman.

When Goodman’s father died of cancer last summer, she wished there had been a support system for her and her mother for what they went through as caretakers.

That’s when she discovered Imerman’s story.

“Imerman Angels started in 2003 by Jonny Imerman who was diagnosed with testicular cancer at 26,” Goodman explained. “During it all, although he had amazing friends and family supporting him, he never met someone who was his age and going through the same thing.”

That’s when Imerman founded the partnership for anyone seeking cancer support “with someone just like you,” or with what they call a Mentor Angel.

A Mentor Angel is a cancer survivor or caregiver who is the same age, same gender, and most importantly who has faced the same type of cancer. The service is free and helps anyone touched by any type of cancer, at any cancer stage level, at any age, living anywhere in the world. Imerman went onto become a CNN Hero in 2012.

“We’ve had just about 11,000 matches in about 14 different countries,” Goodman said. “It doesn’t matter where anyone is.”

Imerman Los Angeles is now getting ready to launch Team Imerman Angels, a group of individuals who participate in events ranging from a marathon and half marathon to triathlons to their recent Soul Cycle fundraising ride.

“We’re hoping through these small events like this amazing yoga event, we are creating more awareness that this free cancer service and that it’s out there,” Goodman said.
