SMC’S Johnson, Harris Make All-Tournament:

Center Shakir Johnson and guard Aaron Harris of Santa Monica College were named to the all-tournament team at the Rio Hondo Tournament last week.

The Corsairs finished third in the event. They reached the semi-finals, where they lost to highly rated Saddleback College in the semi-finals, 68-64.

SMC had a 68-48 win over Southwestern earlier in the tournament and went into its next venture, the Saddleback Tournament, with an 8-5 record.

Johnson is a 6-foot-9 freshman from Dorsey High. He has size and talent and is being watched by coaches of Division 1 teams. Harris, a sophomore from Mira Costa High, was a reserve on last season’s SMC team and is playing a much larger role now.

The Corsairs’ next home game will be January 4 against West Los Angeles College. The schools’ women’s teams will begin the doubleheader program at 5:30 p.m.The SMC women have a 6-6 record. In their most recent games, they edged Moorpark College, 75-74, lost to Citrus 62-55 and defeated Antelope Valley 74-71.
