Malibu family physician David B. Baron has been elected chief of staff for 2006 at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center.
Dr. Baron had served as the medical center’s vice-chief of staff for the past two years, as well as chair of its Family Medicine Department.
A 14-year Santa Monica resident, Dr. Baron runs a concierge medical practice called Primary Caring of Malibu, which offers members with a wide range of personalized services and amenities.
A board-certified family physician, he completed his residency in family medicine at the medical center in 1991. He took his undergraduate degree at Amherst College and attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Baron is also a singer/songwriter and pianist who performs with other physicians in a band called Malpractice. Among the band’s gigs have been several several hospital functions.
“This is an exciting time of construction and modernization as Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center’s rebuilding project moves toward completion,” Dr. Baron said. “I look forward to working closely with the current medical staff and newly arriving physicians from Orthopaedic Hospital to forge a new, unified group of caring health professionals dedicating to creating a center of excellence for the Westside community and its residents.”
Joining Dr. Baron as officers on Santa Monica-UCLA’s Executive Medical Board are Drs. Chester Griffiths and Denise Sur, who were elected vice-chief of staff and secretary-treasurer, respectively. Dr. Griffiths is an otolaryngologist, based in West Los Angeles. Dr. Sur is director of the UCLA Family Medicine Residency Program.
Other members of the board, which oversees medical affairs at Santa Monica-UCLA, are Drs. Gerald Finerman, Denise Freese, William Growdon, Peter Lefevre, Philip Levin, James Luck, Bernard Weintraub and Dennis Woo.
