A 33-year-old Santa Monica man was killed when he crashed his 2001 Suzuki motorcycle on the connector road from the Marina (90) Freeway to the San Diego (405) Freeway in Culver City, the California Highway Patrol said today.
The motorcyclist was Teran Lawson of Santa Monica, said coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz.
The accident happened on the connector road from the eastbound 90 Freeway to the northbound 405 Freeway about 8:50 p.m. Sunday, CHP Officer Alex Rubio said.
Lawson’s motorcycle was in the No. 2 lane of the transition road from the eastbound Marina Freeway to the northbound San Diego Freeway at an unknown speed, said CHP Officer J. Norfolk.
Lawson “allowed his motorcycle to veer to the right and collide with the raised concrete curb edge. He was ejected from the motorcycle and subsequently collided with a light pole and roadway sign,” Norfolk said. “He came to rest along the guardrail along the south roadway edge. The motorcycle continued in an easterly direction and came to rest blocking the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes of the transition road.”
A second traffic collision occurred because a passing vehicle struck the motorcycle in the roadway, damaging the vehicle, the officer said.
The deadly crash shut down the connector road and a SigAlert was issued at 9 p.m. by the CHP for the investigation. The connector road was reopened at 12:20 a.m.
No other injuries were reported.
