Gloria Allred also said the accuser in the first criminal case to be filed against Cosby is “very brave” for coming forward.
Allred noted that the Pennsylvania case involving Cosby and Andrea Constand was brought within the statute of limitations and that the filing came after an extensive investigation.
She also noted that charge against Cosby — aggravated indecent assault – – is a felony and not a misdemeanor.
“I have do have to say Andrea Constand is very brave … I think she’s terrific,” Allred told CNN.
Constand, a 42-year-old former Temple University employee, claims Cosby drugged and assaulted her in January 2004. More than 40 women have made similar allegations against the 78-year-old entertainer.
Allred said the Pennsylvania district attorney who brought the charges was recently elected, is “very serious” and scrutinized the issues very carefully.
She said that many of the women she represents are willing to testify in the Constand case if their testimony is judged to be both relevant and admissible.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is still pondering whether to file a case against Cosby stemming from an alleged 2008 sexual assault at the Playboy Mansion.
The Los Angeles Police Department submitted information to prosecutors Sept. 30, but the case “remains under review,” according to Jane Robinson of the District Attorney’s Office.
