Jazz Soloist Lisa Hilton’s West Coast Debut at Pepperdine Friday:

Lisa Hilton

Called the “lioness of jazz” by jazzreview, the critically acclaimed composer/pianist Lisa Hilton is debuting new compositions from her 2016 release, "Nocturnal," in her solo piano show Friday at Pepperdine.

Hilton’s impressionistic "sound paintings" continue to explore the soundscape of jazz and blues alongside classical, modernist, and avant-garde ideas, event organizers said.

"This performance includes her beautiful and evocative, "Midnight Sonata," which combines the classical form merging with the freedom of american jazz and blues," they stated.

Hilton plays a cool West Coast style of jazz influenced by musicians like Miles Davis, Stan Getz and Dave Brubeck and "has been compared to some of the best pianists in history.” Downbeat Magazine has praised Hilton for, “the sheer beauty of her playing."

Hilton debuted "Nocturnal" January 17th at Carnegie Hall – this is the West Coast premiere. Tickets: $10-$25.

Details: Friday March 4, 8pm,  Smothers Theatre at Pepperdine University: 2455 Pacific Coast Highway Malibu.
