“Love Orlando, Music Heals” Concert July 7 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Santa Monica:

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Santa Monica and the String Project Los Angeles will host “Love Orlando, Music Heals,” an evening of jazz, classical and contemporary music from great artists to support “The Center” in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, July 7 beginning at 7:45pm at Mt. Olive, 1343 Ocean Park Boulevard, Santa Monica.

An amazing group of world class musicians are volunteering their talents for this event, according to organizers.

They include:

LACO’s Principal Bass Peter Lloyd

LACO’s Principal Cello Andrew Shulman

Georgy Gusev, Classical Cellist

Tim Loo, Cellist of the Lyris Quartet + Ensemble

Josh Nelson, Jazz Pianist & Artyom Manukyan, Jazz Cello

Ben Powel Trio, Gypsy Jazz Violinist

Donations at the door will benefit “The Center,” the LGBT Community Center of Central Florida for their work supporting the wounded and helping the families of those who died and were injured in the shooting at the Pulse Club on June 12.

Diana Szekely, co-director of the String Project LA, has said, “Like everyone else we know, the staff at String Project LA was completely shaken by the senseless tragedy in Orlando, thinking there was so little we could do for the victims and their families.  Fortunately, we were approached by the Rev.Eric C. Shafer, Senior Pastor at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Santa Monica and a big supporter of music in our community, and we decided to team up to see if we could put on a benefit concert with all of the proceeds going to The Center, which is currently raising funds to help the victims’ families. As a music school for very young creative string players, we always aim to heighten the students’ sensitivity to the humanity, creativity and beauty hat is the art of music and sharing music. It is an absolute privilege to gather some of the most beloved and virtuoso Los Angeles based string players to partake in a benefit concert and hope to share our love for the healing impact of music, all the while helping to promote the great work of The Center.”

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church is a “Reconciling in Christ” congregation, that is, a congregation that welcomes everyone, including Gay and Lesbian people.  The congregation has a large parking lot and is handicapped accessible.
