Happy Fourth of July!:

Santa Monica is all set to celebrate the 4th of July holiday weekend in style, with thousands expected for the Main Street Parade, and neighboring fireworks displays sure to delight.

Main Street Parade

Organized by Ocean Park Association (OPA), the parade kicks off promptly at 9:30 a.m. at corner of Pico and Main Streets and heads south. “Join us anywhere along the route as we make our way to the beach at Barnard Way!” organizers said. 

The entire parade route and some streets leading to it will be closed to vehicle traffic all morning. Public parking can be found at the Civic Center Lot ($5 maximum) and beach lots. Public transportation, walking and cycling are recommended to travel to the parade route.

Pacific Palisades Fireworks

Palisades Charter High School is hosting their annual Palisades Rocks the Fourth concert and fireworks event from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. with a great line-up of music, food, and entertainment. Tickets are $10, kids under 6 are free. For more info head to: palisadesrocksthefourth.org. You can also see the fireworks from most vantage points in the area, including the beach and Pier.

Marina Del Rey Fireworks

Head down to the waterfront for Marina Del Rey’s 4th of July Celebration. Best viewing spots are: Fisherman’s Village – 13755 Fiji Way, Burton Chace Park – 13650 Mindanao Way, and Marina (Mother’s) Beach – 4101 Admiralty Way. SMFD Warning – Personal Fireworks Are Not OK

The Santa Monica Fire Department is reminding everyone that all types of fireworks are illegal in the City of Santa Monica. This includes so-called “safe and sane” fireworks, which may not be used in Santa Monica even if they are legal in the city in which they are purchased.

5615 Seizure of Fireworks. All fireworks shall be illegal in the City of Santa Monica including California State Fire Marshal Safe and Sane. The fire code official shall have the authority to seize, take and remove fireworks and/or safe and sane fireworks stored, sold, offered for sale, used or handled in violation of the provisions of Title 19 CCR, Chapter 6 and Health and Safety Code, Chapter 9. Exception: When permits are issued for such use.
