Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter will join writer and longtime critic of U.S. policies Gore Vidal in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 4 for a discussion of Iraq, Iran and the current constitutional crisis.Ritter was the U’s top weapons inspector in Iraq between 1991 and 1998. Before working for the UN he served as an officer in the US Marines and as a ballistic missile adviser in the first Gulf war. He is the author of Iraq Confidential, published by Nation Books.New Yorker writer Seymour Hersh said, “The important thing to know about Scott Ritter is that he was right.” National Book Award winner Vidal was born in 1925 at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He published his first novel, Williwaw, when he was nineteen years old and serving in the Army. Since then he has written 23 novels, five plays, many screenplays, short stories, well over two hundred essays, and a memoir.U.S. Tour of Duty’s Real Intelligence Project, Los Angeles City Beat, and Progressive Talk AM 1150 are sponsoring the discussion, which they describe as “a citizen response to lying, spying and dying for the ‘war on terror.”It will take place on Saturday, March 4 at 4 p.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 3300 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. Doors will open at 3 p.m. Seating is first-come, first-served.Ritter will sign copies of Iraq Confidential following the event.Suggested donation is $10, but nobody will be turned away.
