Meals on Wheels West will hold “Mayors For Meals Day” on Wednesday, March 22, in conjunction with the national Meal on Wheels/March For Meals campaign.Santa Monica Mayor Holbrook and Malibu Mayor Andy Stern will demonstrate their support for the Meals on Wheels West program by accompanying volunteers on their meal delivery routes on March 22.“We are excited about having our community’s mayors participate in this event. With their help, we hope to educate people about Meals on Wheels West and raise awareness of senior hunger in our community,” said Rosemary Regalbuto, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels West.March For Meals is a national campaign to raise awareness of senior hunger, and to encourage communities to support senior nutrition programs, such as Meals on Wheels, through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives.Meals on Wheels West delivers meals to homebound, disabled or elderly persons living in Santa Monica, Malibu, Pacific Palisades and Topanga. Volunteers deliver two nutritious meals a day, 365 days a year. “Meals are very important and necessary; however, it is the daily social contact, the sharing and caring by the staff and volunteers that makes this program the lifeline to those who, without it, would be unable to remain living in their own homes independently with dignity,” said Regalbuto.
