Miss America’s Ugly Daughter to Premiere in Santa Monica

The world premiere of Miss America’s Ugly Daughter: Bess Myerson & Me, will open at the Edye theater at the Broad Stage of the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center on July 14.

Miss America’s Ugly Daughter is a darkly comedic, poignant two character solo show about the seismic mother-daughter relationship of Bess Myerson, the first and only Jewish Miss America, and her daughter, Barra Grant.

Grant’s original show includes the disembodied voice of her mother performed by comedienne Monica Piper. The show is directed by Eve Brandstein and produced by Suzi Dietz for The Edye Stage at The Broad Theater 1310 11th Street, Santa Monica, CA

Playwright August Wilson has been one of the most compelling voices in illuminating the African-American experience.
