S.M., Malibu Clinch Playoff Berths:

Santa Monica and Malibu have clinched playoff berths for the upcoming American Legion baseball playoffs.

Both teams have 10-2 records in a league comprised of Westside teams. They split two meetings, with Santa Monica winning 11-1 and losing 3-2.

The Santa Monica team is coached by Samohi’s Kevin Brockway and made up primarily of Samohi players.

In a recent game, centerfielder Dylan Early, who led Samohi in RBI’s last season, hit a home run over the fence at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Joe McGrew, Samohi’s first team all-CIF pitcher as a junior, has continued to win and shortstop David Castellanos, who divides time between baseball and soccer, has been outstanding.

Culver City, which beat out Santa Monica for the Ocean League championship last season, elected not to field an American Legion team this summer.
