After the first week of school, kids and parents in Santa Monica were in need of a little fun last weekend and for those who attended the 7th Annual Cardboard Yacht Regatta at the Annenberg Community Beach House, fun was definitely had
In this event, two-person teams paddled and raced handmade cardboard yachts across the length of the pool. The regatta tested the seaworthiness of these yachts, which could only be made out of cardboard and duct tape. With three different race categories (youth/youth, youth/adult, adult/adult) fun was had across the board in the pool despite having a few vessels sink.
In the youth and youth category, squad Megalodon took home first place, Team Narwhal took home second place and Demolition finished third. In the youth and adult race, The Voyagers led by 11-year-old Max Furburg, finished in first, followed by The Animals in second and toto(row) in third.
The toto(row) vessel was right back at it in the adult and adult category, finishing in first place, with Pigmo in second and The Fab Four, aka and The Yellow Submarine in third.
