Brentwood Wins, Awaits Difficult League Tests:

The Brentwood School football team has prepared well for the most difficult part of its schedule – talented Alpha League opponents beginning with Maranatha Saturday at 3 p.m. It will be Brentwood’s homecoming.

Brentwood, Maranatha and Whittier Christian all have 2-0 league records.

“This game will be quite a challenge,” said Brentwood Coach Patrick Brown.

Brentwood defeated Marshall of Pasadena on Friday, October 20. The 44-0 victory showcased all of the Eagles’ skills.

“We scored on offense, defense and special teams,” said Brown. “Ben Oliva had three touchdowns – one on a pass, one on a kickoff return and one on a punt return. We ran the ball well and our quarterbacks, Mason Moss and Josh Amster, rotated on every play and did a great job.”

Brentwood’s defense was also strong. Marshall crossed the 50-yard-line only once.

The game’s first touchdown was scored by Brentwood’s Tommy Grogan on an interception return.

Brown said he’s pleased with the system of rotating quarterbacks. It’s an unusual strategy but has proven to be effective as coaches talk to each quarterback just before he enters the game and opponents’ weaknesses are exposed.

“We did it a lot in the ’80s and early ’90s but not so much lately,” said Brown.
