Los Angeles bagel shop Pop’s Bagel taking over former Alfred Tea Room space on San Vicente

A popular bagel shop known for its made-to-order “LA-style” bagels is opening a location in a short jog away from Santa Monica.
As reported by Eater LA and confirmed by the businesses itself, Pop’s Bagels (located at the Platform in Culver City) will be opening in Brentwood at the former Alfred Tea Room at 11928 San Vicente Boulevard.
“Big news today!!! We are SO excited to announce Pop’s is opening TWO new locations very soon!!” the eatery posted on Instagram. “Looking forward for whats to come & to keep spreading fresh bagel love.”
There is nothing complicated about Pop’s bagels: just flour, yeast, LA water and organic barley. On their website, the eatery took aim at other bagels in LA in explaining their mission statement.
“Bagels in LA suck. There’s no debating this statement, it’s useless. Bagels here are just dense rolls of bread with a hole in the middle. Anytime anyone says they found a good bagel in LA they are really just talking about the various toppings i.e. salmon and veggies. We are here to change all of this,” they write. “Our bagels are light and chewy yet never dense like some NY bagels can be and they are always hot. We want to change the perception of the bagel in LA.”
Pop’s Bagels says they make everything from scratch, including homemade cream cheese and butters.
The Brentwood location is expected to open in this spring. In addition, Pop’s Bagels announced it will be opening a location at the recently-completed Culver Steps development later in 2021.
