Two people were extricated from vehicles and transported to the hospital with serious injuries following a head-on traffic collision on Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD), the crash–which occurred around 1:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of PCH near the California Incline–appears to have been a head-on collision involving two vehicles.

“Investigation revealed that a silver Honda traveling northbound on Pacific Coast Highway swerved into the southbound lanes for unknown reason and collided head on with a black Jeep traveling southbound,” the SMPD said.

Both drivers, the only occupants of their respective vehicles, were transported to local hospitals with serious to moderate injuries.

“2 patients required extrication and were transported to UCLA Ronald Reagan Hospital with serious injuries,” wrote Santa Monica Fire Department Captain Patrick Nulty in an email.

North and Southbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were closed for approximately three hours.

The Santa Monica Police Department’s Major Accident Response Team will continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
