Santa Monica City Council returns tonight for public comment and attendance for the first time in over two years.

The City of Santa Monica has announced that beginning Tuesday, April 12, Council Chambers at City Hall will reopen for attendance and public comment during the Santa Monica City Council.

“After almost two years of remote City Council meetings and hearing from our community over the phone, I am thrilled that we can mark the positive change in COVID-19 transmission by returning to in-person public participation,” said Santa Monica Mayor Sue Himmelrich. “We look forward to seeing more faces in person and to supporting our community’s engagement in the democratic process.”

The City says it “strongly recommends” that the public wear a mask when inside City buildings and at City Council meetings, however, they will not be required.

The City will fulfill any requests for ADA accommodations or Spanish language interpretation services made up to three days before the meeting.

Meetings of Santa Monica’s Boards and Commissions will remain remote for the time being.

“Planning is ongoing for how best to move forward with their format,” the City said.
