Learning to Relax and Unwind Post COVID-19

To say that the last two years were stressful is an understatement. As a small business owner, it’s likely you felt some impact due to the pandemic. You probably sacrificed, like many others, working day and night to keep the company in the black. While new variants of the virus are still emerging, it’s much weaker. With COVID-19 lessening daily as a potentially deadly threat to society, life pre-pandemic is starting to show signs of a return. It’s essential that you learn to relax and unwind to grow the business successfully and experience a good quality of life.

Take a Vacation

After two-plus years of maintaining your business despite lengthy lockdowns and other government and state-imposed restrictions, it’s time for you to enjoy rest and relaxation. Set your sights on new and exotic locations where you can take a raincheck on reality for a few weeks. For example, a beachfront hotel such as the Villa Cofresi, located in Puerto Rico gives you a break from the hustle and bustle. Instead, you enjoy fantastic scenic views and a warm tropical climate. You’ll also have wonderful amenities like access to a spa and massage, restaurants, shopping and room service. You’ve worked diligently and selflessly for better than two years, now it’s time for you.

In Case of Emergency

With access to the internet at your hotel in Puerto Rico, you can still monitor your business from afar. Put your business in the hands of other qualified staff members and then review emails and other business-related information once daily, briefly. Let your guard down, and give your employees the chance to shine and prove that they can handle things. In the case of an emergency, you’re only a phone call away.

Improve Your Attitude

A vacation gives you a chance for a personal reset. Small business owners often neglect taking time off for a number of reasons. Unfortunately, a lack of downtime can result in increased levels of stress and anxiety. These bottled feelings can also surface and make others uncomfortable around you.

Creative Thoughts

With little or no downtime you become burnt out. When this happens your focus is on maintaining the business versus growing it. A few days away from the business and you begin to clear your head. Suddenly ideas filter in and the door opens allowing your creative side to surface.

Mental Health

The more you work without taking time off, the greater the risk of mental health issues. Depression often follows severe anxiety and stress. If you feel trapped with no way out, it can overwhelm you. The pandemic caused many small business owners to have similar feelings and struggle with their mental health. Taking a break is just what the doctor orders to preserve your sanity.

Make the Trip Easier

Several weeks before leaving on vacation, it’s important to not only delegate duties to your staff but also to address any potential problems. This way your employees can monitor the situation and if necessary contact you while away. Additionally, it’s in your best interest to make clients aware of your upcoming vacation.

Kick Back and Relax

You made it through a very difficult period in your life that hopefully never repeats itself. There’s no reason to feel guilty about leaving the business for a few weeks. You have qualified individuals running it, and if anything urgent comes up, they will respond. Your job while away is to enjoy downtime. Kick back and relax on the beach, take a bike ride, and become equated with the locals. There’s no time to awake or retire, take advantage of it.

Since spring 2020 life has taken a toll on many small business owners. Now that the virus is losing steam, it’s a fantastic time to plan your getaway.
