Ridwell Diverts Picked-up Items Such as Produce Bags and Clothing
By Zach Armstrong
Ridwell, a doorstep service that picks up hard-to-recycle or reusable materials from households for recycling, is making a Los Angeles debut in Santa Monica with services soon expanding throughout the county.
With a network of more than 200 recycling businesses and community partners, Ridwell diverts picked-up items such as produce bags, clothing, lightbulbs, chip bags, candy bar wrappers and batteries from subscribed customers’ homes. Drivers pick up the items every two weeks to then send along to specialized recycling facilities and community partners.
So far, the company says it has helped reduce more than 15 million pounds of waste in cities including Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Austin, the Bay Area, Denver, and Atlanta.
“Angelenos have a close connection to the stunning natural beauty surrounding them. They want to protect the environment and waste less, and they’ve accelerated their actions to do so. This is the perfect moment for Ridwell to serve Los Angeles, starting with Santa Monica, said Ryan Metzger, Co-founder and CEO of Ridwell in a release. Our mission is to make it easy to waste less. Doorstep by doorstep, we aim to inspire people to create a future without waste. We’re excited to join forces with households across LA to do just that. Small actions will lead to significant change.”
Memberships start at $14 per month. Members receive bins with labeled cotton bags to sort and organize items. To sign up, go to get.ridwell.com/hey-santa-monica.
