Canadian Hobbies that have grown in Popularity

Whatever hobbies you choose to have, there is no doubt that having one or many is a great way to develop your skills and help us relax from our busy lifestyles in our spare time. However, our own personal interests and where we are from can also have a huge impact on what activities we like to partake in. In this context, it is worth exploring Canadian hobbies that have grown in popularity in recent years.

Firstly, Canada is a country that is known for its stunning landscapes, upbeat people and thriving social scene. Of course, as these factors have made Canada such a popular country to visit, there are many opportunities to pick up a hobby here. One hobby that many people love in this country is cooking as the region is famous for its outstanding cuisine and plethora of impressive restaurants. From making traditional Canadian dishes such as poutine, tourtiere and butter tarts to learning how to make different dishes from around the world, it is more common that ever to see Canadians making food from scratch. One of the reasons why cooking has become more popular in Canada is because of modern technology which allows people to take online classes or watch videos online that fit around their schedules. Eating out has also gotten more popular as Canadians are on a constant search for inspiration when it comes to making their own dishes.

Winter sports such as ice hockey and skiing have also risen in popularity due to the winter weather Canadians experience. Ice hockey is known as Canada’s national winter sport and Canada’s major cities are home to some of the most famous teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Calgary Flames, the Montreal Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucks. Not only is it incredibly common to go see a hockey game but during hockey season in this country, it is equally as popular to flock to sports bars to cheer on your favorite hockey team. Canada is also known to have the perfect climate and terrain for skiing which has become even more popular in recent years as ski destinations such as Whistler has attracted many people from all over the world. Other winter sports such as dog sledding have also become more favoured among Canadians as they are taking advantage of the weather in Canada.

In addition, as nature is Canada’s most abundant resource, many people in this country like to go camping. Not only does camping allow Canadians to have fun and bond with others, but the fresh air and open space helps reduce their stress levels by connecting with nature. It also helps campers to exercise their geography skills and learn other camping skills such as orienteering, fire building and tying rope knots. Many people like camping in Canada as it also permits them to try out several of their hobbies at the same time such as fishing or cooking. In this scenic country, there are always stunning walks and hikes nearby that people can explore to increase their fitness levels or take a beautiful photograph.

Alternatively, there are also a plethora of indoor hobbies such as video gaming and playing casino games. Nowadays, many of these games are multiplayer too, meaning that several people can have fun at once. In fact, even if you do not reside in Canada, it is easier than ever to recreate the experience of being there as you can learn poker rules from the comfort of your own home. On the other hand, many people who are fans of the indoors in Canada have also taken up reading as a way to broaden their mind and also discover new worlds.

Furthermore, in Canada there has been a public interest in recent years for unique hobbies such as yoga or bird watching. Just as it is popular in the rest of the world, Canadians also love yoga because it supports their physical and mental health. There are also many classes that are hosted in special locations outdoors which can make the experience even more unique. Moreover, birdwatching has become one of the fastest growing hobbies in North America and it is the act of watching, monitoring, feeding, filming, or photographing birds.  With over 450 kinds of birds in Canada, there are plenty of opportunities to get to know each one up close in this country.

Overall, hobbies are a great way to unwind from the stress of everyday life and many people are beginning to experience the benefits of having one. This trend is no different in Canada as the popularity of such hobbies as skiing, camping, hiking, playing indoor games etc has skyrocketed in recent years. In the future, as people are constantly trying out new things, we should witness more people trying unique hobbies in Canada and all over the world.
